The background of IYEF

Youth unemployment is one of the most pressing issue in many countries around the world, which is a huge opportunity cost to any county’s economy. This has had a detrimental impact on Kenya’s social society. One of the effect of youth inactivity is the increased risk of poverty amongst youth. Young people who are inactive are prone to becoming socially excluded, as they do not have the opportunity to connect with society through value-creation opportunities gained via access to the labor market. These social problems may cause further unexpected consequences, such as isolation, criminal activity and drug use.

Feedback from our beneficiaries

What they say about us

"I went to IYEF after I had just become an entrepreneur. My business was faltering, and I was questioning whether I should give up the entrepreneurial career path. Many of the speakers were entrepreneurs, and the personal advice they gave not only helped my business at the time, it showed me that I should stay on the entrepreneurial career path. 15 years later, I'm still an entrepreneur, and I credit part of that to IYEF!"

" Through the relationships I nurtured in IYEF and the skills the program helped hone, I developed the confidence I needed to succeed. IYEF gave me the tools to fill my toolbox, so I was able to capitalize on opportunities as they were presented. It expanded my views and showed me that there were more possibilities for my future that I hadn’t even contemplated."

"Without the training and experience that I received at IYEF at such a crucial time in my life, I do not think I would be the effective entrepreneur that I am today. The structure of the program, a combination of courses, team projects, one-on-one tutorials, mentoring, panel discussions and teamwork activities, fostered collaboration across diverse student group"
